Just finished reading "To Renew America" by Newt Gingrich. The book was published in 1995, shortly after Newt became Speaker of the House. The book was pretty well written, but something bothered me.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. While some of the things that Newt wrote about were a lit outdated, the majority of the book could have been written today.
Just going down the list of the contents several things pop out:
"Creating American Jobs in the World Market" "Replacing the Welfare State with an Opportunity Society" "Balancing the Budget and Saving Social Security and Medicare" "Decentralizing Power" "Learning Versus Education" "Individual Versus Group Rights" "Illegal Immigration in a Nation of Legal Immigrants" "English as the American Language" "Health Care as an Opportunity in the World Market" "Ending the Drug Trade and Saving the Children" "Why Rush Limbaugh and His Friends Matter" "The Flat Tax and the IRS" "Term Limits and the Defeat of the Democratic Leadership in the House"
Do any of those issues sound familiar? Maybe all of them? Conservatives, Constitutionalists, Republicans, Libertarians, and anyone else concerned with the future of this country need to step up and let their voices be heard. We The People need to fight to restore the freedoms that so many have fought and died for.
Lets create a business environment that encourages the opening of plants here, the manufacture of goods here, the ability to work hard here. And that doesn't mean raising taxes or letting the government control another industry. That means lowering taxes for EVERYONE. Yes, the rich should have lower taxes too. The math is simple. Rich people own businesses, the more money they make, the more money they can reinvest in the business, thus hiring more employees and paying them better. Not to mention the fact that you will keep more of the money you earn, and then you can spend it (generating more tax revenues) or invest the money, maybe in your own business, and then you can hire employees. Now, I'm not an economist, but even I can see how well the government runs things and how American businesses have been innovative and stayed competitive. Which model should we choose?
I'll discuss more of the topics in the following days.
May the Force be with you.
