Happy holidays. Happy Kwanzaa. Happy Hanukkah. Happy Ramadan. Happy Winter Solstice. But most of all Merry Christmas!
I hate political correctness. We are so afraid to say what we mean and mean what we say. Its no wonder the world is so screwed up.
I do not consider myself a Christian. I have read the Bible and I believe that it is true, from a certain point of view. But I have my own view on things. I do not celebrate Christmas as a Christian. I celebrate it as a time of joy. Of friends and family. Of giving, "the spirit of Christmas." There is nothing offensive about Christmas. It is the celebration of birth, of hope, of a new life to save us from our flaws. What is offensive about that?
And to the Pagans and Atheists out there, yes I know that the date was stolen from other traditions and that the story borrowed from many different cultures. But who cares? Get over it.
Some people need to be offended. They need drama. Something to fight about or fight for. And frankly thats okay. But choose your battles and causes a little wiser. Fighting against Christmas is counterproductive.
We should all be fighting for what we want. We the people want Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That does not mean we should take that away from somebody else. If you want to celebrate Christmas, good for you. If you don't, that's okay too. But just because you don't want to do something, don't spoil it for the rest of us.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
The First Amendment gives us the right to have whatever views we want and express them as much as we like. And that goes for people working for the government. If the people of a town want a nativity in their capitol building, they have that right!
Remember its freedom OF religion, not FROM religion. Just because you have different views doesn't give you the right to silence others.
Merry Christmas.
God Bless America.
May The Force Be With You.
